Learn & Burn: Piedmont

  • 388 Robedo Rd Mt Gilead, NC, 27306 United States (map)

We have a Piedmont GROWING SEASON Learn & Burncoming up this Thursday, June 5th, in Montgomery County. In addition to burning, we will have folks on hand to talk about considerations when thinking about growing season burning, particularly in the Piedmont. Terry Sharpe, retired biologist with NC Wildlife Commission, and Mark Bost, retired forester with the NC Forest Service, who both have decades of experience burning in the Piedmont, will both be there to take a deep dive into what to know and consider about growing season burning in the Piedmont, including consideration of ground nesting birds. It’s all about the fuels.

We’ll also have people there to update us on any EQIP/Cost Share changes along with opportunities to sign up. It’s a great time to bring your management plans. There will be someone there who can review them with you.

We will gather at 5PM so don’t worry about food, we’ll have some sandwiches there. If you’re a little late, that’s okay too. See more details below about the burn.

If you’ve not seen longleaf growing other than in the Sandhills, this is a great opportunity to see what our Federal partners and private landowners are doing to bring longleaf back into the Uwharries.
